What was this “controversy” you were talking about Magpul mags? The first thing I did when I bought my first AK in USA was to get those mags and tell you what, I like them a lot. Seems to be good quality and fit and finish is great. Granted, I only have some 2000 rnds through them so not sure how they last. But seems to be solid product to me. Not as good as Sako AK plasticmags to me but maybe I’m just prejudice….One thing I don’t understand is the “hype” or whatever you could call it for the steel mags, at least where I live at the moment. All we had when I did my military service back in early 90s were those steel mags for our AKs and I can honestly say that I hate them. Then again, my memories with them are trying to reload those suckers at the range when its -30 degrees and you can’t use gloves…Yup, plenty of bloody and frozen fingers…So I don’t use steel ones anymore.

About PSAK, I hope it survives the test. So far so good but still lots of rounds to go.

Try loading a magpul magazine to its capacity and drop it from waist high on its feed lips. You will notice a vertical crack emerge almost every time.

Try loading steel magazine to its capacity and drop it from waist high on feed lips on concrete – it will not crack – it will deform and most likely rounds will jam. Dropping magpul mag in the same fashion made feed lips cracked – magazine still feeds rounds. So what is better in this situation?

Damn, what is with you guys and dropping your guns and mags? Not even during my military service I never have dropped my gun or my mag and it’s not for the lack of opportunities. Ok, do not take that too seriously, I have dropped an empty pistol mag or AK mag couple of times(usually on purpose during a drill and fast reloads) but don’t recall ever dropping full one. No damages on any of those.

Well Robs example still keeps me using plastic mags. Also weight is one of the reasons for me to prefer plastic mags.

          Thanks for the input guys.

Man, just few days ago, one of my Joes eat dirt when jumping down from LMTV. He tripped on cable and went down like a rock – rifle first. Rifle bounced back from the road and hit him with acog right underneath of helmet. Good thing medics were right there because he was bleeding like a slaughtered pig. Acog took it like a boss…:-) See, shit happens all the time, lol

    Rob,

Where do you order your testing ammo from? What type of ammo do you recommend using?

Mostly from Aim Surplus. I buy mainly wolf – polyperformnce or military classic – whichever is cheaper, lol

Validates what I discovered about my Magpuls after deliberately trying to crack the feed lips. It took some effort (a couple two story falls while loaded with thirty, onto bricks) but they did crack. Still feed like champs though.

“Should I stay or Should I go?! Do-do-do-do-do-do-do!” Hilarious! Mucho Gusto!

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I hear magpul is developing some of their AK mags that will have some steel reinforced lips on the mags. (Like a glock) AK users that shoot regularly beat the crap out of their guns, because we can.

Regular wooden stock could be made fit. Other than this, not much, because PSA designed their own rear trunnion…
