Hi Rob. Thank you for all your wisdom. I recently purchased a Vepr 7.62x54r and had a few questions. What are the rifles weak points and expectations for round count since it is a large round? Should I try and acquire any extra parts if possible, like extractor, etc? I needed to ask someone with true knowledge and experience. You guys are great. Thanks

Hi, it all depends how you are shooting it, if you will keep dumping rounds (highly unlikely with this caliber, lol), then you will burn barrel fast, but if you will keep shooting it “normally”, barrel will be good for at least 10k rds. 7.62x54r isn’t that fast and chamber pressure isn’t overkill. As far as spare parts, get extractor claw and spring. Firing pin. Recoil spring. That’s it…

Thank you for your quick reply. Do you know if a regular Ak extractor spring will work with Vepr 7.62x54r extractor or does it have to be Vepr 7.62x54r specific? I also noticed the 7.62x54r has a dual recoil spring setup like my Vepr 12. When needed I have heard of some guys replacing spring with regular Ak spring. Do you recommend that? Parts are becoming harder to find for these rifles. I have been watching your channel from the beginning. Thank you for your time it is really appreciated.

I think you can use regular one. I took it apart and length looks comparable.
