AK 47 (AKM) KRUM Muzzle Brake Review

14/09/02 at 8.30am   /   by Rob Ski   /   12 Comments

krum7KRUM muzzle brake is made by LHS holsters out of Bulgaria and could be acquired directly from their website. It has big expansion vents on sides, which allow to escape gases trough the 5 vent holes, reducing significantly the vertical muzzle rise of the AK. The rest of the gas goes trough two baffles helping reduce the recoil force that pushes back towards the shooter’s shoulder. Two more vent holes can be found on top of the Muzzle brake, dedicated solely to reduce the 45Degrees muzzle rise – unique feature that every AK rifle has. The KRUM AK Muzzle brake is made with 24×1,5R thread. This is very well designed brake and puts some pressure on competition. It is very interesting and affordable product. Here is our video review on it.

Can you tell me if this muzzle break reduces the recoil on a 5.45 (SGL31 / AK-74) more than the factory chrome lined 74 style muzzle break? I just recently ordered an SRVV Jet break and although I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, I have done some drills and found that even though it’s only 3oz heavier (2x the stock weight), because it’s at the very end of the rifle it feels much more dramatic and I don’t like that added weight. I have the standard 24mm threading and I typically use corrosives.

Also have you had a chance to compare it to the Spike’s DnyaComp (which looks to be similar to the Battle Comp): http://www.spikestactical.com/spikes-tactical-ak-dynacomp-m24x15rh-thread-p-940.html

Here is what I’m looking for:
    – Price is $100 or less price range
    – 24mm threading
    – It must reduce muzzle climb more than the factory break without adding weight (if it’s a tad over 3oz like 3.2oz that’s fine, but not like the SRVV Jet which is 6.4oz, more than double)
    – Resistant to corrosives is a plus such as Chrome lined or Melonite coated

I’m looking for recommendations and so far the only ones that seem to do that would be the Krum break if it works as well for 5.45 or the Spike’s DnyaComp in 24mm. Unfortunately the Venom and Battle Comp are 14mm so even if I were to scrimp for the cost I can’t use them without an expensive front end conversion. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also just recently found the DTK-1, DTK-2 and the ME Tornado break on legion usa. Any suggestions regarding those breaks? The DTK-2 (3.8oz) and Tornado (does specify weight) look to be relatively light, but do they compensate at least as good as the factory 74 break? Both look like they would be cleaner running, meaning they won’t foul up the threads as much, which the 74 style break really has a problem with when using corrosives, making it very hard to remove for cleaning.

It looks like this brake never really made it to market. Over on the AK forums several people are out their money and the website is gone for this company. Why do you leave the info up for this on your site?

We were first to alarm people about their scam. We have posted several warnings on our facebook page and updated video description. This is old post from September last year…

So is Legion USA the scam or is just the product the scam? I’m looking to buy a brake from them and saw the tornado. I came across this thread while looking for reviews.

This brings me to the next point…when are you going to start selling muzzle devices on your site? I’d much rather support you guys

Doug, i wasn’t even aware that Legion was selling Krum. But the problem was with Krum guys, they fooled us all…anyhow, going back to our site, we will have DTK2s in next 7 to 10 days…:-)

They relaunched their company as “Vokil Tactical Systems” at http://www.vokiltacticalgear.com/en/

The Krum muzzle brake has been renamed to the MANTIS Muzzle Brake.

I originally placed an order for the Krum brake and it never showed up. I filed a paypal dispute and got my money back. I saw that they had started to make the brake again with a new name and a new brake. I ordered one thinking, what the heck. This time it arrived within a couple weeks of ordering. It works really well and looks good on my Bulgy underfolder. I’ve thought about snagging another on in the future.

I have no idea. They don’t import them anymore, whole thing endup in big scandal and many people got burned on those (they never deliver brakes to many customers who paid for them).
