I purchase my first ak in January, unfortunately it’s a RAS47. I’ve put 500+ rounds through it and have similar wear on bolt and bolt carrier. I still like the platform, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Wow, I knew this test would not workout well for the RAS47 but I never imagined it would be this bad. These results are what I would expect from an I.O.

Seems like your testing process is getting under Yeager’s skin.

I’ve got a C39V2 that’s beginning to show some of the same wear marks on the bolt with probably around 500 rounds through it. I’ve started to document it and I’ll continue as I shoot the rifle more.

Oi Vey, glad I opted not to buy this as first AK over WASR. Rob probably saved my love for the Kalashnikov.

PS: Totally buying another WASR in the near future. Too much fun.

I’m new to the AK rifle platform, I recently bought one of these (RAS47) as a value home defense firearm. Serial number is 25k+ and even has the “X” mark on my bolt carrier (updated heat treating). Wondering if the RAS47 in this video series is an earlier/later model?

Either way, if the damage on the bolt & carrier group reaches absolute failure… can simply replacing these parts increase the life of the RAS47? Also, what kind/brand of bolts & bolt carriers are recommended for best performance and durability? Thanks for any advise guys.

On Yeager’s video, Century says they will replace if it breaks. So, I would call Century and have them fix your rifle much like a lifetime warranty on a Smithand Wesson.

If you replace the carrier you will need to check and probably adjust head space. If you are lucky you can grind a little off the carrier. Otherwise you would need to re set the barrel. At that point you would be so invested in parts and labor you could go buy a wasr. I have a collection of bolt and bolt carriers if you live in las vegas id be happy to let you check them for fit. Any mil surp parts will be hammer forged I believe. You can check apex, rtg, or kvar. I buy most of my parts from apex.

Although some AKs do not seem to have this wear issue, I think this is why the Czechs used a different toggle like bolt lock on their VZ58. All rotating bolts will suffer like this.

hmmm…..the rifle is beatign it self apart. if I am not mistaken most damage is located at right abd low. Could it be binding on the bolt carrier that excerts such a force?
Can you check rail height and/or bolt carrier rail slots allignment. especially regarding alignment with the piston?
