Custom AK74 from Rifle Dynamics (and more)!!!

14/11/10 at 11.22am   /   by Rob Ski   /   24 Comments

This story starts with regular AK74 which was donated to us by one of friends in good faith to help Union to add more rifles for equipment testing. Unfortunately, right form the beginning, this AK74 was trouble. It was keyholing badly and the whole rifle was simply “unstable” – it was jamming almost every other round and it was simply unusable. Because of these problems, that poor AK, was assigned to “pictures duty” only. Time have come and finally we have managed to workout rescue plan for it with Rifle Dynamics. What started as simple “barrel swap” project, end-up as complete rebuild and tuneup. The only thing which was left original to the old rifle was receiver…everything else was basically replaced…Now, the only way to make sure that this “new ” rifle is fit for Union service, was to take him through hell. We have put it on it impressive range of accessories: Zenit B-30 lower hand-guard, Zenit B-31 upper hand-guard, Zenit DTK-2 muzzle brake, RD M4 stock adapter with Magpul CTR stock, Primary Arms MD-ADS Red Dot and American Defense T1 mount for it. Sling was from Razor Six Tactical. Below is our review of custom AK74 from Rifle Dynamics!

Guys, you need to proofread and revise this stuff before publishing it. As it sits, the paper is full of grammatical errors and that makes it appear very unprofessional.

Good write-up, though, glad to hear of Jim’s rifles taking a beating!

What is the weight on those Zenit handguards?

James, total weight of these rails is: 386 grams. On AK74 it really don’t make a difference. On 47 type you are going to feel it, because they are heavier and ammo weight more too…

Jim is a great guy who dose very good work and stands by his products. I had him do two 74 century polish tantals that originally came with 223 barrels. Keyholes were at least every other round and when the barrels heated up just got worse. You get what you pay for guys. Go arsenal…

Anthony, you can buy Zenit at Legion USA.
@Ammo – there is tons of 5.45×39 commercial ammo – only military surplus ammo, 7N6, was banned.

Is that a DTK-2 break? How does it compare to the standard 74 break?

Yes it is. I like it better, but it is harsh on your teammates…

So is the Jet break which I just received, decided I wanted to persue something lighter in weight as long as it compensated better than the standard 74 break (which is very good). I just really for some reason am not liking that extra 3oz on the end that the Jet break adds. Perhaps that dislike may be secondary after I actually use it, but I wanted to get some feed back on alternatives if I decide the Jet break is just too heavy.

Hey what rail is that on the dust cover? I’ve been wondering which dust cover rail you guys recommend since you gave the TWS dog leg rail a no go. Excellent review and videos as always!

Great video! You’ve convince me that I need an AK. The union dues are rather expensive, so I will have to save up. Haha.
    Thanks for the video guys!

I’m looking at a RD rifle. Is it worth the 1600 compared to my PSAK47?

Hey, is there another location of the Rifle Dynamics with PA MD-ADS review? It seems to be gone from YouTube. Won’t even pull up from the archives here on the website. Is there another location to watch it?
