15/12/18 at 10.30am   /   by Rob Ski   /   14 Comments

AK47 (AKM) 1-6x scope from Primary Arms is solid value for the money. 7.62×39 ACSS reticle, works awesome, but can it be used for CQB??? So, let’s see what this scope brings into the table.

BAD and GOOD – RAS47 Review – American made AK under the pressure!

15/04/22 at 9.24am   /   by Rob Ski   /   71 Comments

RAS47_4We are kicking off 2015 season with review of Century Arms RAS47 – this is their stamped receiver version, modeled on AK rifles. Our testing has evolved for this season. Sand test is a setup for failure – EVERY rifle will fail. We just want to see how far every test subject can be take it with this. RAS47 best score was 3 rounds down the range. Now, drop test was different. We have redone this test to give it the rifle best shot and we had the same failure. Also, before going to drop test and “swim test”, we made sure that rifle was cycling…now, it is possible that sand was hidden somewhere in the receiver. But what you don’t see on video, is that RAS took swim test 3 times and all 3 times it caused a jam. Again, it was 100% operational before swim test. Swim test failures were: FTF (twice) and FTE.

Zeroing AK Rifle

15/02/09 at 8.57pm   /   by Rob Ski   /   48 Comments

Zero3This is the old school, Russian way of zeroing AK rifle in 7.62x39mm. In the nutshell:
1. Be at 100 meters distance.
2. Must have control target with dimensions: 25 cm wide x 35 cm toll.
3. Rear slider should be set to 300 meters settings.
4. Aim at bottom of control target.
5. Shoot 5 shots group.
6. Group location should be 25 cm from the bottom of control target.
7. Once zeroing is done, move rear slider to 100 meters settings.
Notes: 1 mm of adjustment in lateral movement of front post = 26cm at 100 meters; 1 full rotation of front post = 20 cm (screw in to move POI up and un-screw to move POI down)

WARNING: if you don’t have access to 100 meters range, for 100 yards distance, that bullet group should impact at 23 cm and not 25 cm. So it is 2 cm difference.

AK 47 Milled Receiver version from DDI Review

14/11/24 at 11.49am   /   by Rob Ski   /   62 Comments

DDI_2When we have received AK 47 Milled Receiver version from DDI (Destructive Devices Industries), we were shocked by initial quality of this rifle. DDI acquired Waffen Werks and fear was, based on previous rather poor experiences with WW, that they may not live up to expectations. So when the box with rifle was open, it was nice to see high quality finish and very nicely assembled AK. However, we all know that looks could be very deceiving…the only way to see if this DDI AK candidate has what it takes to be an AK, was to take it to the “farm” for testing…here is our review of DDI Milled Receiver AK47 with fixed stock and side rail.
